Organic Mulch & Long Acting Fertilizer Pellets
With the continuing dry weather conditions and limited watering we are able to do in our gardens I have noticed that the soils we are growing our plants in are not as healthy or active as they once were.
Previously my home garden soils would be teeming with insect, worm and microscopic life that indicated good soil health with the on going rapid decomposition of the organic material and mulch to feed the plants.
Lately I have seen reduced activity and the soil structure below appears to be deteriorating. Despite regular watering and fertilizing this is having an impact on the growth and health of the plants.
What is needed is not just more organic
mulch, fertilizer or water alone but the addition of a product that
will help condition the soil and improve the productivity of the soil.
One such product that has recently arrived in the Garden Centre is produced by Northcott's of Hamilton called "Organic Fertilizer, Mulch & Long Acting Soil Conditioner". It comprises of organic pelletised sheep manure with added residual wool.
The residual wool contains the substance keratin which slowly breaks down into its composite amino acids and promotes the necessary changes in the soil that allows the long acting release of phosphorus, nitrogen and all other trace elements. This makes it an excellent soil conditioner for all soil types and encourages rapid root development.
The mulching properties of this formula is also a perfect food source for soil microbes and worms, making it essential as their purpose is to convert vegetable matter into plant nutrient, which is integral in completing the restructure and balance of the soil.
To ensure your soil maintains that balance a regular top dressing of Northcott's Organic Pellets is imperative. This cannot be understated as the soil microbes, worms and other insect life can only continue to thrive as long as there is food available for them.
This product may appear to be more expensive than similar products but it has been developed to improve the soil conditions as well as feed the plants growing there improving long term garden and plant performance and more resistance to extreme conditions etc.
Gardenworld has this product available in store now in 10 kg bags for $16.95 each (or 3 or more at $14.95 each) and it is well worth trying in the garden now in readiness for autumn.
