Well seeing as it's almost 2009, we thought it was about time that we started the Gardenworld blog. Yes Melbourne gardeners, get ready to be informed as to what is happening in your garden and what is happening in our nursery.
Many commentators are predicting that 2009 will underline the importance of family values and of having a home that is haven for forming social bonds that will last a lifetime. A place where herbs are sourced not from $2.95 plastic supermarket packages but from the earth within. Even people renting houses who used to just let weeds bloom and grass grow high are joining in. They realise the benefits of a garden and that if they are smart, they can grow many of their plants in pots and take them with them when they move on.
Social statements on carbon emissions are already being turned into actions. Worm farming, water capture and native plantations are just some of the new frontiers of the home garden. It's all about attitude rubbing off on one another.
The addiction of horticulture is that there will always be challenges in growing a plant or building a garden. Let's hope we can help guide you on your way, and besides, being one of Melbourne, Australia's most famous retail nurseries we thought it was about time we kept you posted. Let the seasons begin !
